Hector Lopez became a former Clackamas Community College student when Immigration and Customer Enforcement (ICE) rounded him up and deported him back to Mexico in late September of 2010. His August arrest nearly made him a poster child for the DREAM Act because he had been brought to the United States by his parents when he was just a toddler, but in a rare twist of efficient enforcement ICE deported him just a week after picking him up.

Hector Lopez graduated from Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukee where he was elected student body president, won scholarly awards, coached little league. He planned on transferring to Portland State University and becoming a marketing major before meeting ICE. He had no criminal record, but already had a standing deportation order, so sending him back easy.

After arriving home in Mexico City Lopez spoke at a Portland State University press conference via speaker phone where he expressed his dissatisfaction about being in a place he had never been, had nowhere to stay, and no way to earn an income.
